
A tragic rollover crash claimed the life of a 28-year-old man early Sunday morning on the North Freeway service road in Houston, as reported by cityofhouston.news. The victim, whose name has yet to be officially released pending verification by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences, was a passenger in a green Chevrolet Suburban when the driver lost control of the vehicle.
The Houston Police Department detailed the event that took place around 2:20 a.m., where the Suburban, attempting to enter the ramp to the North Interstate Highway 45, struck the concrete median causing the truck to overturn, cross a grassy median, and come to rest on the freeway's main lanes, ejecting the male passenger in the process while HPD Vehicular Crimes Division Sergeant Y, Ramirez and Officer J. Trevino were among the first to take record of the crash scene's grim aftermath. First responders from the Houston Fire Department arrived shortly after to transport both the driver and the passenger to a nearby hospital, it was there that the passenger was pronounced dead.
The driver involved, a 24-year-old male, walked away with minor injuries and showed no signs of impairment; he was treated and subsequently released from the hospital. As the investigation unfolds, the Houston police have not yet filed any charges, continuing to probe the specifics of the incident to determine its cause and any potential repercussions for the driver.
The circumstances surrounding the tragic event remain under active investigation by the HPD Vehicular Crimes Division, with authorities asking any witnesses or individuals with relevant information to come forward.
