Houston Man Charged in April Fatal Shooting on Sunbury StreetSource: City of Houston

A man has been charged in connection with the fatal shooting of another man on Sunbury Street last month, authorities said Monday.

The suspect, identified as 25-year-old Jaquarius Lewis, is facing a murder charge in the 178th State District Court, according to a news release from the Houston Police Department. The shooting occurred on the evening of April 18, claiming the life of 40-year-old Quincy Johnson, found unresponsive in his apartment by HPD patrol officers.

Houston Fire Department paramedics were called to the scene and pronounced Johnson dead from a gunshot wound. Witnesses at the scene told investigators Johnson was on his balcony when two male suspects walked by, opened fire, and struck him. A manhunt ensued following the release of surveillance photos of the suspects on May 2.

Lewis was nabbed last Friday, May 3, after a tip led officers to him. He has since been identified as the shooter and charged with the crime, officials said. A second male, initially thought to be involved, was questioned and released without charges, while authorities are probing the possible involvement of a third suspect.

With the investigation continuing, the Houston Police Department urges anyone with information related to the case to reach out to the HPD Homicide Division at 713-308-3600 or to provide tips anonymously through Crime Stoppers at 713-222-TIPS.
