A man has been slapped with charges after a shooting incident that whirred into action in a high-drama encounter at an apartment complex in Houston, authorities reported. The incident unwound earlier this week at about 8:45 a.m. on Thursday, at 2525 South Voss Road.

Ryan Ameer Shah, the 39-year-old suspect, found himself in the crosshairs of the law and has been charged with assault on a family member with prior conviction, as stated in a release by the Houston Police Department. Shah, wounded in the encounter, now lies in a hospital bed under tight surveillance, medical condition stabilized.

Houston police, upon responding to the scene in the parking lot of the apartment complex garage, discovered Shah with a gunshot wound. Paramedics quickly hustled to shuttle him off to the hospital. The case fell under the investigative purview of HPD Major Assaults and Family Violence Division Detectives R. Mendoza and A. Chheav.

The 37-year-old woman, who pulled the trigger, told authorities that she was simply trying to safeguard her own life. She claims Shah is her ex-husband, against whom she had to defensively act after he struck her. This revelation emerged as she recounted her steps to the garage to inspect her vehicle, which she believed Shah had both vandalized and notified her of via a picture in a text, according to her testimonial in a statement obtained by the Houston Police Department.

The altercation did not leave the woman with serious injuries. Meanwhile, the Harris County District Attorney's Office was tapped for legal counsel, which quickly led to charging Shah, who remains hospitalized.
