According to a report by the City of Houston, police arrived at the scene following reports of a shooting and found the victim unresponsive in a hotel room. He was pronounced dead by paramedics at the scene. The circumstance of the shooting suggests a violent altercation, with witnesses reporting that the victim had been involved in a shootout with a suspect in the hotel’s parking lot before retreating to the hotel room where he ultimately succumbed to his injuries.

The suspect, who engaged in gunfire with another unidentified male before striking the victim, managed to evade capture. Described as a black male in his 20s, the gunman's current whereabouts are unknown. The other participant in the initial exchange of gunfire had also fled before the arrival of the police.
