A METRORail collision with a pickup truck on Monday evening has led to an ongoing investigation by METRO police. The crash, which occurred on the 5000 block of Harrisburg in Houston, unfolded when the driver of a private vehicle blatantly ran a red light and illegally decided to turn left in front of the oncoming train, FOX 26 Houston reported. The aftermath saw four people — three from the pickup truck and one from the train — transported to the hospital to receive medical care.

In a separate incident on the same day, a suspected drunk driver wreaked havoc at a West Houston METRO stop. The driver, a 31-year-old woman, crashed into the bus stop located at the intersection of Westheimer Rd. and Briarhurst Dr. just before 7:30 p.m., according to a report by Click2Houston. Tragically, a 33-year-old woman who had been sitting at the bus stop died from her injuries, while the condition of a 40-year-old male victim remains uncertain.

Lt. Va'shawnda Mclean with the Houston Police Department relayed that the suspect at the METRO stop showed signs of intoxication and initially resisted arrest before officers could take her into custody. Although now behind bars, no formal charges have been announced because the woman was also hospitalized following the collision.

Local authorities are urging drivers to strictly adhere to traffic regulations, especially when encountering METRO system areas, to not just avoid tightly to manage to avoid such devastating crashes in the future. With the investigations ongoing, further details about both accidents are expected to emerge.
