Newly appointed as the Manager of the North Garland Library, Karla Dandavati, has made it clear that her love for libraries and their role in the community is what drove her to the profession. "I love the library and what it stands for,” Dandavati mentioned in a recent feature, highlighting the importance of public libraries as resource hubs. In the same piece, she expressed her commitment to spreading awareness about the value libraries offer beyond books, as per the City of Garland.
When asked about her personal favorites, Dandavati said her top book is "The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society" by Mary Ann Shafer, and when it comes to films, the 2003 remake of "The Italian Job" takes the prize. Her passion for the job shines through when she talks about guiding patrons through the library’s offerings, "Helping our patrons discover all they can do at the library; from the kids finding a great picture book to our seniors learning how to use a computer," according to the City of Garland.
Dandavati's role as a librarian encompasses much more than managing books and data. It's about community engagement and education. She takes delight in patrons' discovery of the library’s extensive resources and services. Whether it's a child’s wonder at a new picture book or the triumph of a senior mastering the mouse and keyboard for the first time, these moments seem to be what truly resonates with her.
And it's not just books and movies that pique Dandavati's interests, she also has a penchant for savory treats, particularly the Monte Cristo Sandwich. Her extracurricular interests include traveling and menu-sampling at new eateries, both hobbies hinting at a zest for exploration and experiencing new cultures, whether it's through the pages of a novel, the scenes of a movie, or the flavors of a dish. In her own words, "Love traveling and discovering new restaurants," Dandavati revealed, as per the City of Garland.
Karla Dandavati's appointment represents a continuity of commitment to the enrichment of the community through literacy and learning. At North Garland Library, her enthusiasm for connecting with visitors and enhancing their experiences has set the tone for a new chapter in the library's service to the public.
