A habitual lawbreaker from Klamath Falls is headed back behind bars after a federal court sentenced him for possession of methamphetamine with intent to distribute. Andrew Miles Devos, 42, with a checkered past of eight prior felony convictions for drugs and guns, was handed a 75-month federal prison term followed by five years of supervised release, the U.S. Attorney's Office announced.
Devos' latest legal woes stemmed from an incident in January 2020, when local narcotics enforcers got wind of his drug peddling activities. Local law enforcement from the Basin Interagency Narcotics Enforcement Team collared Devos as he was about to seal a drug deal. A subsequent vehicle search turned up meth, a handgun, ammo, and drug paraphernalia. Despite his rap sheet, Devos had managed to once again illegally possess, and prepare to unscrupulously distribute, a stash of methamphetamine and wield a firearm, in brazen disregard of the law.
Initially charged by criminal complaint on June 3, 2020, for a trifecta of felonies including illegal gun possession and drug trafficking, a federal grand jury upped the ante on September 17, 2020, indicting him on the same charges. He ultimately pleaded guilty to possessing with intent to distribute the methamphetamine, according to a press release from the Department of Justice.
John C. Brassell, the Assistant U.S. Attorney for the District of Oregon, spearheaded the prosecution with help from the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives. Though Devos has been caught and sentenced, the local narcotics enforcement team, BINET, remains vigilant, and committed to rooting out such criminal behavior from their community in the ongoing battle against drug trafficking and gun violence.
