Summer is officially kicking off in the City with the opening of outdoor pools this Memorial Day weekend. According to a recent announcement, Ed Cothren Pool and Inskip Pool are set to welcome residents starting Saturday, May 25. Ready for a splash, city dwellers can hit the pools from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Saturday, and from 1 p.m. to 6 p.m. on Sundays.
As the long weekend approaches, the City of Knoxville offices will be hitting the breaks and closing down on Monday, May 27, to observe Memorial Day. This includes a shuttering of the doors at the 311 Center for Service Innovation. But fret not, tech-savvy folks can direct their city concerns through the My Knoxville app or by getting virtual assistance from the online chatbot.
While the aquatic fun is priced at $3 for Ed Cothren and $4 for Inskip, families and fitness aficionados can snag some discounts. Group rates, Splash Pass holders, and members of senior fitness programs like Silver Sneakers, Silver & Fit, or Renew Active are all eligible for reduced fares. Discounts require a bit of planning, so a heads-up call is advised.
If your weekend plans involve anything other than lounging poolside, be aware that the City's Solid Waste Facility on Elm St. will be closed from Saturday through the holiday, resuming regular operation on Tuesday. Meanwhile, your trash won’t be left to pile up. Waste Connections will be out and about, running its normal routes even on Memorial Day.
The City's five recycling drop-off centers will remain open. However, if you're looking to offload some gently used goods, you'll have to hold onto them until Tuesday; the Goodwill attendant is taking a day off too. Lastly, those reliant on Knoxville Area Transit should plan according to the Sunday schedule, which will be effective on Monday, May 27.
