The Lewisville Police Department is turning a new page in its communications approach, announcing on Friday the appointment of Officer Rachel Roberts as the new Public Information Officer (PIO). The choice by Chief Rollins symbolizes a step forward in bridging the gap between the department and the public it serves.
Officer Roberts is set to quickly become the new face of LPD's public relations, tasked with the responsibility to further develop and implement communication strategies both within the department and toward the broader community. "I am excited to have Rachel on the team. She is well known around the Department and the community. She will do a great job in this new role," Chief Rollins said, according to the Lewisville Police Department.
Previously part of the Neighborhood Resource Officer unit, Roberts will now also need to effectively manage the department's expanding social media presence, connecting with digital natives in spaces where traditional ideologies of policing are often critically scrutinized.
