A Lithonia man has been found guilty in the fatal shooting of a 54-year-old man at a Stone Mountain gas station, as reported by the DeKalb County District Attorney's office. Nathan Weeks, 27, faced a jury over the murder of Isaac Godbolt on June 20th of last year, with the jurors returning a verdict of guilty on charges including Malice Murder and Felony Murder.
Details of the case, as stated by DeKalb County District Attorney's office, describe a violent altercation at a gas station located in the 4700 block of Redan Road. Godbolt was discovered in his vehicle suffering from multiple gunshot wounds and later died from his injuries at Grady Memorial Hospital.
Evidence against Weeks mounted with surveillance footage showing him interacting with individuals near a silver car before approaching Godbolt's vehicle. The situation escalated when Godbolt attempted to exit his car, only to be shot multiple times by Weeks, who then fled the scene. Weeks's arrest later came in Columbus, GA. He was found in possession of a handgun, which ballistics testing confirmed as the weapon used in the shooting.
Further implicating Weeks was an incriminating recorded conversation between him and his mother, where he confessed to the killing. Leading the charge in court was Senior Assistant District Attorney Kara Roberts, backed by Senior Assistant District Attorney Andrew Turner and support from the DA's office. The District Attorney's office notes that Senior Judge Winston Bethel presided over the trial and sentencing for Weeks will be planned in the weeks ahead.
