A 54-year-old man was shot in the leg on Joseph E. Lowery Boulevard NW, the Atlanta Police Department reported. The shooting occurred on May 10, with officers initially responding to a call near Donald Lee Hollowell Parkway NW at around 11:44AM, where they found the wounded man. Despite his injury, the victim was conscious and alert, yet he astonishingly refused medical treatment, insisting that he would make his own way to a hospital later on.
Details are sparse, but the Atlanta Police Department stated that the man was located after a concerned citizen alerted officers to the situation. The victim, who preferred to not immediately seek professional medical help, later requested an ambulance from an address on Rhodes Street NW. Investigators from the Aggravated Assault Unit are trying to piece together precisely how to unravel the events leading to the man's injury. According to a statement from the Atlanta Police Department, the initial investigation suggests the incident took place at 644 Joseph E. Lowery Boulevard NW, but the injured man has been less than cooperative, providing limited information to the officers.
The victim eventually changed his mind about medical attention, and at approximately 5:01 PM, a call was made for an ambulance to the Rhodes Street address. "The male advised that he would now like medical treatment for his injuries," according to Atlanta Police Department. He was then transported to a local hospital, his condition stable.
The police have thus far been unable to confirm whether the victim was targeted or if the shooting was a random act of violence. Residents of the area are urged to step forward with any information they might have that could help to shed light on this incident. The Atlanta Police Department makes an appeal to the community, hoping that someone will come forward to possibly illuminate the backdrop against which this violence occurred.
