Manhunt Underway in Georgia for Escaped Inmate With Felony RecordSource: Newton County Sheriffs Office

Georgia officials are in a frenzied manhunt after an inmate gave authorities the slip from a Newton County hospital this past Saturday. Kendrick Hurst, a man with a record of felonies including terroristic threats, made his daring escape from Piedmont Newton Hospital and now has law enforcement on high alert.

The escapee, aged 34 and known for his distinct facial tattoos and a lip piercing, was spotted along City Pond Road in Covington donning a red durga, sans a shirt, paired with dark blue jeans—a sharp shift from the bright lime green jumpsuit he wore during his escape, as reported by FOX5 Atlanta. Despite authorities believing Hurst is not an imminent danger to the public, they are taking no chances. The Newton County Sheriff's Office, along with the aid of the Covington Police Department, Conyers Police Department, and Georgia State Patrol, are on an exhaustive search for the fugitive.

Newton County Sheriff Ezell Brown has assured the community that an internal inquiry is underway to examine potential slip-ups in protocol during Hurst's custody in the hospital. "Sheriff [Ezell] Brown wants to address the ongoing investigation into the circumstances surrounding Mr. Hurst's escape," a spokesperson told FOX5 Atlanta. "Rest assured, there is an ongoing internal investigation to determine if there were any failures in following protocol. As always, should any wrongdoing be discovered, appropriate action will be taken."

With Hurst still on the lam, a reward for information leading to his recapture is being offered: $500 from the Newton County Sheriff's Office and up to $3,000 by the U.S. Marshals Service. Citizens have been urged to remain alert and to contact 911 if they spot Hurst or have any information that can lead to his whereabouts, as per the advisory by 11Alive.
