Memphis is in for a wet and potentially stormy few days ahead, according to the latest forecast from the National Weather Service (NWS). Residents should be ready for heavy showers and thunderstorms, particularly before evening time today and then again tonight. The skies opened up earlier today with an 80% chance of precipitation, new rainfall could add up to a quarter of an inch, but thunderstorms could bring higher totals, per the NWS.
The damp weather isn't letting up tonight, with showers and thunderstorms on the menu before 11 p.m. and an enduring 80% rain probability. The mercury will hang around a modest 69 degrees Fahrenheit. As for future rainfall, you're looking at a quarter to a half-inch, though thunderstorms, could push that number up. The humid air isn't helping either, with a dewpoint of 69°F making things feel sticky out there.
Heading into the weekend, the sun plans a comeback, teasing with a 40% chance of showers early Saturday before breaking through the clouds. Temperatures will soar to a toasty 87 under mostly sunny skies, with only a whisper of south wind shifting west-southwest later in the morning. Saturday night presents a slight chance of showers and thunderstorms after 1 a.m.
For those with plans on Sunday, keep an eye on the sky. Storms might pop up post-lunch with a concerning footnote, according to NWS predictions. Gusts could whip up to 30 mph in the daytime when the high will near 89, and some night thunder could roar before tapering off, with a 60% chance of precipitation, and less than a tenth of an inch of rain expected unless thunderstorms decide to crank it up a notch.
Memorial Day will carry the possibility of showers and thunderstorms in the afternoon, but otherwise, expect warm and sunny conditions with highs in the upper 80s. As the week progresses, the storm risk retreats, and sunny, clear skies will dominate. Highs will remain in the mid-80s with lows in the more comfortable mid-60s range.
