A Shelby County Criminal Court judge sentenced Daireus Ice to 65 years in prison Thursday for kidnapping a 4-year-old girl from her front yard and raping her in 2018, closing out a case that took seven years to reach its conclusion. Judge Chris Craft imposed the statutory maximum on every count: 40 years for child rape, 25 years for especially aggravated kidnapping, and 12 years for especially aggravated sexual exploitation of a minor.
According to Action News 5, prosecutors said Ice and co-defendant Antoine Wilson abducted the girl from her yard before Wilson sexually assaulted her while Ice filmed the attack. Judge Craft ordered the rape and exploitation sentences to run concurrently with each other but consecutively to the kidnapping sentence, producing the 65-year total, per localmemphis.com.
A Jury Verdict After Years of Delay
A Shelby County jury convicted Ice on all counts on September 19, 2025, following a trial in which the girl — 12 years old by then — testified alongside her mother and brother, according to the Shelby County District Attorney's Office. She was 4 at the time of the 2018 offense. The case had been delayed for years by reassignments across three different judges, extensive DNA analysis, and complex severances involving multiple defendants, the district attorney's office noted.
Wilson pleaded guilty to all charges before trial and testified for the state against Ice, describing how Ice recruited him and orchestrated the abduction and assault. His testimony corroborated that Ice filmed the attack while directing his co-defendant's actions, the district attorney's office said. Prosecutors also introduced handwriting expert testimony confirming Ice authored letters in which he boasted about the sexual assaults, evidence that became a key exhibit at trial.
Part of a Larger Exploitation Ring
The case traces back to a broader child sexual exploitation ring that first surfaced in October 2016, when the mother of a 9-month-old victim borrowed a cellphone used by the suspects and discovered graphic videos of her infant being abused, per reporting on the case. That discovery set off a multi-agency investigation that eventually traced digital evidence across several victims.
In July 2020, Ice was formally indicted alongside three co-defendants — Wilson, Isiah Hayes, and Antonio King — in connection with recorded abuse involving three young victims, including an infant, a 3-year-old boy, and the 4-year-old girl at the center of this case, the district attorney's office said. Hayes had been wanted on aggravated child rape and conspiracy charges tied to the ring since 2020 before he was arrested in Jackson, Tennessee, in March, according to the Jackson Police Department. He had evaded capture for more than five years.
Special Victims Unit Led Prosecution
The prosecution was led by Chief Prosecutors Devon Dennis and Lessie Rainey of the Shelby County District Attorney's Special Victims Unit, the office that handles the county's most severe child abuse and sexual assault cases. Even with sentencing complete, Ice still faces three pending cases involving similarly severe allegations, including the rape of a 9-month-old infant, according to the district attorney's office.
Under Tennessee's Truth in Sentencing law, passed in 2022, people convicted of child rape and especially aggravated kidnapping must serve 100 percent of their sentence with no eligibility for parole or sentence-reduction credit, according to Lannom & Williams Law. That means Ice's 65-year sentence will be served in full, guaranteeing decades behind bars regardless of the outcome of his remaining cases.
