The National Weather Service has forecasted a mix of showers and thunderstorms throughout the week, with meteorologists eyeing the skies as we swing between sunny spells and wet weather.
Today, residents can expect a 60 percent chance of precipitation, with new rainfall amounts ranging between a quarter and half an inch possible. "A chance of showers and thunderstorms before 4 pm, then showers likely and possibly a thunderstorm between 4 pm and 5 pm, then a chance of showers and thunderstorms after 5 pm," warns the National Weather Service. Not quite the deluge of Noah, but enough to keep those umbrellas handy and rubber boots at the ready. The temperature will climb to a comfortable 77 degrees, while winds shift from south to west in the afternoon.
Tonight's prospects are slightly drier, with a 30 percent chance of early evening thunderstorms followed by a partly cloudy sky and a low dipping to around 60 degrees. West wind will blow at a mild 5 to 10 mph, providing some respite from the day's earlier gusts.
The seesaw pattern continues into midweek; Wednesday will be mostly sunny with a high nearing 80 degrees, giving way to a partly cloudy night and a low of about 62 degrees. By Thursday, the forecast teases with another "slight chance of showers" and potential thunderstorms by late afternoon. Despite these changes, the mercury is set to reach a balmy 84 degrees, before yet more showers and possible thunderstorms come nightfall, holding a 50 percent chance of occurrence.
Looking ahead to the weekend, conditions appear to settle somewhat, embracing mostly clear nights and a continuing dance between sunny days and minimal chances of showers. Sunday promises warmth with a high of 87 degrees, a hint of summer on the gusts that whirl about the city's storied streets.
