Mesa, AZ is cashing in on its green efforts with a hefty rebate check from SRP, to the tune of $267,570 for its snazzy initiatives to cut the city's carbon footprint. Mesa Mayor John Giles gladly pocketed the check from SRP's Associate General Manager and Chief Customer Executive Vanessa Kisicki. "By forming strategic partnerships with companies like SRP and making smart infrastructure investments, we are successfully reducing the City's carbon footprint and providing new efficiencies for residents," Giles said, as reported by Mesa’s official news outlet.
Mesa's all-electric firetruck, the first of its kind in Arizona, and more than 600 lighting upgrades at city parks were some of the projects that helped secure the SRP rebate. “Mesa has done a remarkable job maximizing SRP’s business rebates to quickly innovate, improve infrastructure and reinforce the city's reputation as a wonderful place to live and work,” declared Kisicki. The Mesa Climate Action Plan (MCAP) that was adopted in 2021 has seen the City invest a whopping $15.4 million in climate projects to help reach its carbon neutrality goals by 2050.
The rebate is just a drop in the bucket compared to an $11.8 million boost from the Department of Transportation earlier this year, aimed at amping up Mesa's public electric charging network. That's a big plug for the city's climate-friendly street cred. In addition to zap-ready fire trucks and energy-saving programs, Mesa is replacing streetlights, electrifying its vehicle fleet, and backing utility-scale solar projects.
SRP’s Solar Choice Select program is another bright spot on Mesa's renewable energy horizon. Mesa’s innovative partnership with SRP is part of a larger picture to transform the city into a hub of climate efficiency. As part of these efforts, Mesa continues to work to aggressively support more renewable energy on the grid.
