The Mesquite Police Department is shining a spotlight on one of its own in celebration of Asian American Pacific Islander Heritage Month. Officer Lance Thomas, an Indian American, has become a face of diversity for the department after being hired in 2020.
In a recent display of appreciation, the department highlighted Thomas's contributions and the rich cultural background he brings to the team. Officer Thomas, who holds a Bachelor of Science degree in business administration with a finance minor obtained in 2019, is multilingual—a skill that undoubtedly enhances his ability to serve the Mesquite community. He reportedly speaks both English and Malayalam, yet, it's his dedication to public safety that sets him apart, according to the department's social media praise.
While off duty, Thomas trades his uniform for sportswear, frequently hitting the basketball court. This love for basketball, a classic American pastime, underscores his multifaceted identity as both an American and a proud bearer of his Indian heritage.
But it’s the unpredictable nature of policing that Thomas finds most thrilling about his job. "What I like most about being an officer is being able to come to work and have each day never be the same, bringing new excitement," Thomas said, as per the Mesquite Police Department. His words not only reflect the dynamic nature of law enforcement but also the enthusiasm he carries into serving the community.
The department's post was part of a broader effort to recognize the contributions of Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders within their ranks and the community at large during the nationally celebrated heritage month.
