Minneapolis residents are bracing for a wet and possibly wild weather weekend, as the National Weather Service in Twin Cities forecasts showers and thunderstorms, some severe, alongside rising river levels in the region. Today's forecast anticipates thunderstorms before 4 p.m. followed by a slight chance of more rain, facing gusty southeast winds turning southwest with speeds that could reach as high as 25 mph, meanwhile, expect highs around 72 degrees, and new rainfall could accumulate up to quarter of an inch, and possibly more during thunderstorms.
Friday night might offer a brief respite with partly cloudy skies and lows dipping around 47, although the Hazardous Weather Outlook cautions that recent heavy rainfall has prompted river levels to rise and may lead to consequential hazards, despite no additional flooding being immediately anticipated precautions might be advisable at certain locations as river level forecasts demand attention. Saturday offers a mostly sunny outlook with highs near 74, but come Saturday night, there’s a 30 percent chance for showers, predominantly after 1 a.m.
The rainy patterns hold through Sunday, dampening Memorial Day weekend plans with a 60% probability of precipitation, including potential showers and thunderstorms from early afternoon onwards, hitting highs near 66 degrees. The turbulent weather conditions are due to ease somewhat on Memorial Day itself, yet there's still a 30% chance of more showers and thunderstorms after 1 p.m.; this mixed bag of sunshine and showers will bring temperatures hovering around 69 degrees.
As for the evenings, Minneapolis nights are forecasted to chill down a bit with Sunday night temps expected to drop around 52, with ongoing chances of rain and thunderstorms, and Monday night looking partly cloudy leveling at about 51 degrees, seeming to be the trend for the start of the new week, which is also expected to see mostly sunny days with consistent highs in the 60s, and Wednesday night promising oft sought after clear skies albeit with lows sitting near 54 degrees, a flow of calm before another slight possibility of 20 percent chance for showers and thunderstorms on Thursday.
