
Residents of Minneapolis and surrounding areas should brace themselves for a significant weather shift as the National Weather Service in Twin Cities/Chanhassen MN forecasts storms carrying potentially severe conditions starting Sunday evening and set to continue into the following week. According to the forecast, there's a 20 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms post 4 pm today, with increasing clouds and a high nearing 78 degrees.

Intensifying overnight, showers and thunderstorms are set to become the main event before 5 am, then transitioning to possibly a thunderstorm after 5 am with an expected low around 60 degrees, the winds from the east southeast could whip up around 10 mph and may deliver new rainfall amounts between a half and three-quarters of an inch. On Monday showers and thunderstorms are likely before 11 am, after which there's a chance of a return post 4 pm, mostly cloudy skies will dominate, and the high could approach around 75 degrees, while the wind, initially from the east-southeast will shift west northwest in the afternoon, predictions show a 60 percent chance of precipitation with new rainfall amounts varying between a tenth and quarter of an inch.
As the week progresses, the Hazardous Weather Outlook warns that several successive rounds of showers and thunderstorms are expected Sunday night through Monday and then again from Tuesday into Tuesday night, these conditions may prove intense enough to tip into the severe category by Tuesday afternoon. The persistent downpour could accumulate to over 3 inches by week's end, likely causing area rivers and tributaries to swell.
Concern rises especially for Tuesday, as meteorologists anticipate a 90 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms with possible tumultuous weather after 1 pm forecasted temperatures reveal a high near 68 with east winds ranging from 5 to 15 mph, and gusts reaching up to 25 mph collectors may need to gather new rainfall amounts between 1 and 2 inches, the potent mix of hazardous conditions extends into Tuesday night, portraying a continuity of showers and possibly a thunderstorm before 1 am, followed by a chance of more showers and thunderstorms after 1 am, while the low gears down to around 54 degrees and the east wind checks in around 15 mph, potentially surging to gusts as high as 30 mph.
The remainder of the week's forecast suggests a cycle of intermittent showers, with a 40 percent chance on Wednesday and again on Friday, alongside mostly cloudy skies, temperatures foresee a moderate high near 63 on Wednesday with winds from the west, strong at times and by Friday the high crests at near 71 degrees with an east southeast breeze. Each night carries its own probability of rainfall, indicating a persistent unquiet in the atmosphere, laying the groundwork for a week where the elements may demand attention and preparation from all who dwell in and around Twin City.
