The search for a Bemidji man who had gone missing earlier this month has finally come to an end. The Bemidji Police Department confirmed that the 61-year-old man was found safe on Tuesday, providing relief to a community that had been fraught with worry for almost three weeks.
Michael Dave Stuart, who vanished without a trace on May 8th, was last seen around 4 a.m. on the 900 block of 6th St. SE in Bemidji. Concerns for his well-being had escalated, given his mental health disabilities and the possibility that he might have been attempting to make his way back to a previous home in Nebraska, Wisconsin, or California, as reported by KROC News.
In their effort to locate Stuart, authorities issued a statewide alert describing him as a vulnerable adult and providing details of his appearance. Stuart was reported to have gray hair and blue eyes and was seen wearing jeans, a green/camouflage jacket, and a baseball cap, with a beard and longer hair around his ears. His family and the police had mobilized the community to aid in the search.
Upon Stuart's recovery, the Bemidji Police Department expressed their gratitude, thanking everyone who assisted in the extensive search. " police thanked everyone who assisted in the search" for the man, as conveyed by KARE 11.
While the details of Stuart’s condition and where he was found have not been disclosed, the resolution of his case highlights the importance of community and law enforcement collaboration in locating missing individuals.
