Bostonians expecting to celebrate Mother's Day with an outdoor brunch might have to rethink their plans as overcast skies loom over the city. According to the National Weather Service, there's a chance for isolated showers in the afternoon, though the likelihood of staying dry remains high with temperatures peaking in the upper 50s. NWS anticipates a calm wind shifting east-southeast up to 7 mph.
However, the onset of the working week promises a shift in weather patterns, with an upper-level ridge expected to push thermometers up. "Warmer days are coming on Monday and Tuesday as an upper-level ridge builds over the eastern US. Monday, temperatures climb into the upper 60s." NBC Boston reports, forecasting highs that could break into the 70s by Tuesday. NBC Boston also notes a buildup of clouds as a new system moves in, bringingelevated rain chances.
The downpour is set to wrap up early Thursday, paving the way for sunshine and agreeable mid-60s temperatures. Despite a primarily dry Friday, weather forecasts suggest clouds may gather again, hinting at a few scattered showers over the weekend.
Notably, midweek rain could prove substantial. "Rain totals midweek have the potential to exceed 1 inch with the rain wrapping up by dawn Thursday," according to NBC Boston. This wet outlook is further corroborated by NWS predictions of a 60 to 70 percent chance of showers from Tuesday Night through Wednesday, however, on an expected return to partly sunny conditions and stable warmth for Thursday's weather scenario.
