Spring Hill, a city experiencing rapid expansion, has officially opened a new gateway to ease onto Interstate 65 – the Buckner Road interchange. The freshly minted interchange promises to reduce congestion and heralds an era of growth for the area. A ribbon-cutting ceremony to inaugurate the interchange was conducted Wednesday, as reported by FOX 17, amidst expectations of handling 17,000 daily trips in its first year of operation.

Drivers will begin to officially take advantage of the route by the end of the week, looking to eventually accommodate an estimated 44,000 trips over the next two decades. The design, a diverging diamond interchange, is the third of its kind in the state, aiming to drastically improve the flow of traffic to and from the interstate, as mentioned by NewsChannel 5. The project, which includes a 2.25-mile stretch of Buckner Road now known as June Lake Boulevard, started in 2022 and overcame multiple delays before reaching completion.

Cementing Spring Hill's stature as a burgeoning hub, the interchange project is just one facet of the city's growth. The June Lake development, set to include commercial, residential, and recreational spaces, is a major driver of the expansion. The city anticipates the influx of people and businesses as the first phase has already seen residents settling in since April. "We’re also working on getting a quality hospital in Spring Hill, and the makings of that is also coming, is in the pipeline," Spring Hill Mayor Jim Hagaman told WKRN.

The new connection is more than just a mundane addition to the city's infrastructure; it stands as a symbol of future prospects. For many, it's a route to be frequently traversed, expected to provide much-needed relief from the daily snarl of traffic. Federal Highway Administrator Shailen Bhatt stressed the importance of such projects, saying, "Thanks to federal investments focused on safety and innovation, I am pleased to celebrate the opening of this much-needed highway interchange that will spur economic development in the region, create new opportunities for the local community and positively impact travelers throughout Tennessee." This sentiment was echoed in a statement obtained by WKRN. Officials earmarked the cost of the project at $56.8 million, with funding shared by Spring Hill and the Tennessee Department of Transportation.
