A tragic late-night collision in northwest Austin on Memorial Day resulted in the death of one woman and the injury of four others; of them, three were children. According to KVUE News, the Austin Police Department (APD) reported to the scene shortly after midnight Tuesday at the intersection of Research Boulevard and West Braker Lane, law enforcement officials believe that the accident occurred when a vehicle, described only as white in color, was driving against the flow of traffic and collided with a second vehicle, causing substantial harm and death.
Within the struck vehicle, a woman lost her life while a man was transported to a nearby hospital via life flight in a dire state, traffic in the area was a snarl as northbound lanes on Research Boulevard at West Braker Lane were shut down, forcing drivers to hunt for alternates as police evaluated the wreckage and paramedics attended to the wounded. Information released by the APD indicated that the three children who were in the vehicle at the time of the crash suffered from injuries judged as minor and received immediate medical care.
The suspected at-fault driver of the white vehicle emerged from the crash seemingly with only minor injuries, details regarding their condition or the full scope of the circumstances leading up to the crash remain murky as of the last reports. In an update provided by the Austin Police via a tweet, it was relayed that no arrests had been made following the incident, even as the road returned to normalcy with lanes reopening for public use.
