Gunfire erupted late Tuesday night in South Seattle's Rainier Beach neighborhood, resulting in one person injured and businesses left riddled with bullet holes. According to the Seattle Police Department, patrol officers rushed to the 9400 block of Rainier Avenue South following multiple reports of shots fired and a speeding vehicle just before the stroke of midnight.
A 20-year-old male was later discovered with a gunshot wound to his arm and a graze wound to his head, the calamity occurring nearly three miles away, in the 200 block of Rainier Avenue South in Renton. Despite the chaos, the victim was stabilized and transported to Harborview Medical Center by the Renton Fire Department. The police's search for the suspect, who had fled the scene, turned up empty-handed.
The incident also snagged another unexpected culprit; an individual linked to the victim was busted for driving under the influence. Guns blazing, this party-strapped with a firearm- was caught amidst the aftermath, their vehicle marred by the night's violent affairs. The car, which bore the scars of the shooting, was sent to the vehicle processing room for examination.
Shell casings and damaged storefronts painted a grim portrait of the incident site which Seattle Police meticulously processed. Diving deeper into the violent night, detectives from the Gun Violence Reduction Unit were called in and tasked with spearheading the investigation to measure's full extent of the episode's ripple.
