A 32-year-old Paulding County man has been handed a 25-year sentence for the shooting death of a woman he considered family, according to official sources. Justin Blane Smart was convicted of killing Shana "Nicole" Dover, a friend so close they referred to each other as siblings. Smart's trial concluded with a jury finding him guilty on charges of voluntary manslaughter, aggravated assault, and possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony, as reported by FOX 5 Atlanta.
The fatal incident took place on Feb. 5, 2022, at 258 Old Locklear Road in Dallas, Georgia. Upon receiving a 911 call, deputies arrived at the scene to discover Dover's body, which had sustained multiple gunshot wounds. In a statement obtained by WSB-TV, the Paulding County Sheriff's Office confirmed Smart, who was still present at the home, was subsequently arrested.
Dover, a 35-year-old mother of three, now leaves behind her children to grapple with the violent loss of their mother.
