Two Phoenix brothers stand accused of the chilling murder of a 26-year-old man, whose body was recovered from a burning car ditched in a canal. Jose and Roberto Lomeli were arrested last weekend, charged with orchestration that involved gunfire and flames in a case that's been unraveled by a jailhouse confession. In turf claimed by violence and painted by tragedy, details are slowly being unearthed.
In the vibrant desert heat, a saga darker than night unfolded. Investigators pieced together a macabre puzzle, only to discover a more sinister portrait: Jose Lomeli, 40, implicated in pulling the trigger on Jose de Jesus Loeza, while his sibling, Roberto Lomeli, 35, stood charged with aiding the aftermath. Both are accused to have worked in tandem, as Jose reportedly led Loeza's life to cease under gunfire before an incendiary cover-up was staged, according to Arizona’s Family.
"That’s when Jose was able to provide details more in depth to detectives of exactly what took place that night," Sgt. Brian Bower of Phoenix Police delineated in a statement obtained by Arizona’s Family. The still-smoldering puzzle began on April 1, with a car set ablaze near 55th Avenue and Osborn Road. The fire department's discovery of Loeza's corpse sparked a homicide investigation that would end at the Lomelis' doorstep.
The investigation pressed forward, even as the brothers became entrapped by their own narrative. Jose Lomeli, swaying under the weight of questioning, conceded to be the shooter in an adrenaline-fueled dispute which led to murder, arson, and abandonment of a body. As the authorities continue to process evidence, the public is left to grapple with the haunting question of what fomented such brutality.
As noted by Hoodline, the Loeza family, wading through a morass of loss, has turned to the community for support via a GoFundMe page. This gesture provides a means for those moved by the tragedy to reach out and help in the face of senseless violence. The Lomeli brothers, now facing the consequences of that April morning, are expected to reappear in court later this week.
