Phoenix is gearing up for the sweltering summer ahead with revamped strategies to tackle extreme heat after last year's scorching temperatures left a wake of hardship and loss. Learning from the painful lessons of 2023, city leaders have committed to a series of changes to strengthen their response to the impending 2024 heat season, as detailed in a report obtained by ABC15. The City of Phoenix has recognized the need to bolster staffing for the We’re Cool Heat Relief Outreach Program and to secure more reliable delivery of crucial cooling supplies at cooling centers and on cooling buses.
According to the city's "after action report," there were notable issues with volunteer staffing and the distribution of ice and water which were "unreliable." Heading into this summer, Phoenix officials recommended that staffing should become a function of the operations to assist with a greater pool of resources for those in dire need. In addition, to alleviate the burden on public transit, the city is pondering the use of a private charter bus for downtown cooling needs. The city has already activated its emergency management response team, solidifying the coordination with various departments to ensure a more robust defense against the dangers of high temperatures.
On the tech front, Salesforce, the customer relationship juggernaut, has unveiled its Summer'24 release with a suite of upgrades aimed at enhancing business operations across the board. The release, which is currently available under the pre-release program, includes a slew of new features and improvements as reported by Automation Champion.
The Summer'24 release promises to infuse Salesforce platforms with advanced functionalities, such as Einstein Automate, Data Cloud enhancements, and expanded support for SOQL query result sets using Apex cursors. Of all the updates that are gaining traction, an open mode for third-party web components in Lightning Web Components (LWC) is set to give developers more flexibility. Other significant improvements cited in the release pertain to Salesforce Scheduler, Field Service, and what was formerly known as Pardot, now the Marketing Cloud Account Engagement.
From improving citizen safety in the searing Phoenix heat to streamlining corporate workflows with high-tech software updates, these developments mark a commitment to proactive change and innovation. As temperatures rise and industries evolve, attention to adaptation details become increasingly critical for both public municipal strategies and private enterprise initiatives.
