
The National Weather Service (NWS) forecasts rain and potential thunderstorms through Memorial Day. Today, the NWS Portland office predicts "Rain, mainly after 2 pm. High near 61. South wind 3 to 7 mph. The chance of precipitation is 100%. New precipitation amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch possible."
According to the latest update from the NWS, the skies will open up before 11 pm tonight with the excess of moisture, lowering temperatures to around 48 degrees as the south-southwest wind circles at 8 mph; the chance of precipitation standing strong at 80%. Tomorrow, Portlanders could witness thunder amid showers, a tempest brewing under mostly cloudy skies and gusts hitting as high as 21 mph, bringing not just rain but also nature's percussion to the city's atmospheric ensemble. As if on a pendulum, Thursday swings back to partly sunny skies, giving folks a brief respite with highs near 67 degrees.
Going into the weekend, the roulette of rain continues as the NWS's detailed forecast available at forecast.weather.gov notes, "A 40 percent chance of showers after 11 am. Partly sunny, with a high near 64." on Friday and unsettled conditions persisting into Saturday. Conversely, Sunday eases back into partly sunny weather, with highs working their way up to a comfortable 67 degrees, offering Portland residents a brief window to enjoy the outdoors without the dampness.
By Memorial Day, the city is expected to bask in mostly sunny skies with the mercury climbing to a warm 75 degrees, at the close of a week marked by the unpredictable temperament of Pacific Northwest skies.
