A routine traffic stop spiraled into a significant drug and weapons bust in Hyannis this past Sunday night. Barnstable Police reported that Officers Kristina Gustafson and John Gardiner pulled over a Red Jeep Grand Cherokee after witnessing multiple traffic violations on Main St.
The driver, identified as Frenyi Mieses, a 25-year-old Providence, Rhode Island resident tried to make a break for it. But, after a brief chase, he was stopped once again approximately 1 mile from the initial scene, where officers discovered a small arsenal and a stash of drugs concealed within the vehicle's modified dashboard.
According to a Facebook post by the Barnstable Police, a 9 mm handgun, 45 grams of Fentanyl, and 4 grams of cocaine were among the items seized from the hidden compartment in Mieses's Jeep.
Mieses now faces a slew of charges including Trafficking More than 36 Grams of Fentanyl, Possession to Distribute Class B Cocaine, and Failure to Stop for Police, charges came after a dramatic chase that started with a standard traffic violation. He was also hit with several firearms violations, including Unlawful Possession of a Large Capacity Firearm, and Possession of a Firearm during a Felony.
Following his arraignment in Barnstable District Court yesterday, Mieses has been held on grounds of dangerousness, adding a legal binding to his troubles that began on that fateful Sunday night.
