In a late-night collision on Bourne Bridge, a 21-year-old man from Raynham, named James Lewis, charged for allegedly driving under the influence and instigating a chain reaction crash involving a state police cruiser. According to Boston 25 News, the incident occurred around 2:20 a.m. when Lewis' car strayed over the double line and collided with a broken-down vehicle that was receiving assistance from a Massachusetts State Police trooper.
The impact pushed the disabled car into the trooper's parked cruiser, causing minor injuries to both Lewis, and the other driver involved. Following the incident, Lewis was arrested on multiple charges, which include operating under the influence (liquor), negligent operation of a motor vehicle, and a marked lanes violation, WHDH reported. The scene was described by video footage showing the significant damage to the vehicles, especially the white sedan driven by Lewis, which had its front driver's side tire missing.
The state police trooper had been responding to the broken-down vehicle on the southbound side of the bridge when the accident took place. WCVB states that after the crash, Lewis and the stranded driver were taken to an area hospital for treatment. Not long after, Lewis was booked at the Bourne State Police Barracks.
Both operators sustained only minor injuries. After receiving medical treatment, Lewis was transported to the Bourne State Police Barracks for booking, per authorities.
