A 61-year-old Renton man has been slapped with a first-degree murder charge over the killing of Reyna Hernandez, a woman whose body turned up in a graveyard in Mexicali, Mexico, in March. According to charges filed by King County prosecutors and reported by The Seattle Times, Louie Hernandez was arrested in Mexico that same month and is currently behind bars there.

Prosecutors have painted a chilling picture of the events leading up to the discovery of the 54-year-old’s body. Hernandez reportedly last made contact on Feb. 26 and was found wrapped in a blanket and tied to a tree in a cemetery days later. As detailed by court files discussed in a KOMO News report, investigators believe Louie backed a vehicle near her body and, upon driving away, dragged her from the tree to the ground — an action betrayed by tire marks found at the scene.

Hernandez’s friends raised the alarm after the Renton Highlands hair salon owner didn’t show up to work and failed to respond to calls. The Renton Police Department and federal officials are now working to quickly piece together an extradition request, hoping to bring the accused back to U.S. soil, as mentioned in a statement obtained by KING 5.

An autopsy performed by the King County Medical Examiner’s Office determined that Reyna suffered a fatal gunshot wound to her head, further complicating what police suggest was a domestic violence case, "Reyna Hernandez told people that Louie Hernandez had punched her in the face when he found out she was seeing someone else," the charging documents state according to The Seattle Times.
