Residents of southern Arizona were jolted awake when an earthquake originating in Mexico sent tremors across the border. A 4.9 magnitude earthquake struck northern Mexico at midnight on Sunday. Shortly after, another quake measuring 4.6 in magnitude hit the same vicinity, according to FOX 10 Phoenix.

In the wake of the nocturnal shaking felt as far as Yuma, there have been no damage reports linked to the quake, as documented by FOX 10 Phoenix. The U.S. Geological Survey pinpointed the quake to approximately 11 kilometers from Delta, Baja California, Mexico. Witnessing daylight, the shakes rumbling under the feet of those far-flung from the epicenter.

The quakes did not only rattle the physical world but also vibrated through the fabric of social media. A Facebook post by 'The Next California Earthquake', a film about California's seismic risks, revealed that "more than a dozen aftershocks have been picked up, including a magnitude 4.6 and a magnitude 4.1." The group described the area as "noticeably active" recently, a nod to the unquieted earth beneath us.

12 News added that the M4.9 quake "was felt in Mexicali and in California's Imperial Valley." This event, cutting through borders with the indifferent might of nature, did not significantly impact the calm of our human constructs. The ground may have moved, but the lives built upon it, for the moment, stand resilient and untouched.
