A convenience store clerk was shot in the chest during a robbery late yesterday on San Antonio's Northeast Side, sparking a manhunt for the suspect, who remains at large. The violent encounter unfolded around 10:30 p.m. at El Sendero Food Mart, according to officials from the San Antonio Police Department.
Authorities responding to a hold-up alarm discovered the wounded clerk, who was swiftly taken to the hospital and is reported to be in stable condition; however, at this time there's been no update on his medical status, as per FOX San Antonio. The masked assailant, who had assailed the store located just a stone's throw from El Dorado Elementary School, fled on foot after the robbery and details regarding whether any money was stolen remain unclear, with both reports from Fox San Antonio and KSAT not confirming the theft of any proceeds.
The San Antonio Police, Fire Department, and EMS were all at the scene, according to KSAT, as the neighborhood was swept for clues, and an investigation into this harrowing incident remains ongoing. The suspect's description, primarily that of wearing a mask, offers scant details for the public to aid in his capture.
Law enforcement officials urge anyone with information to step forward.
