A San Antonio park turned into a crime scene when a 20-year-old man, Cory Mayham, and a group of unidentified males allegedly launched an armed robbery on four unsuspecting victims. Mayham, now detained, faces charges of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon for the incident at the Dan Markson Maverick Creek Trailhead, as reported by FOX San Antonio.
The trouble began after the victims, who were sitting at the park, met Mayham and his crew exiting a white sedan, the same vehicle that later, parked near the crime scene, aiding in the swift arrest of the suspect. The situation escalated into violence when one victim, after sarcastically responding to queries, was pistol-whipped by Mayham. Subsequently, the perpetrators robbed the group of all personal belongings, then made a hasty retreat.
Solid detective work led to the quick identification of the culprits, thanks in part to surveillance footage obtained from a local convenience store. The video captured the innocent park goers stopping by the gas station before returning to the park, only to be pursued by the same white sedan described by the victims and seen in the convenience store's parking lot footage.
A stolen phone, tracked back to a house near the scene, sat in the driveway of the same described vehicle, weaving the investigative threads tighter around Mayham. Investigators received a witness report after one found a victim's ID in Mayham's yard, who then combed through his own security footage, depicting Mayham being dropped off by the white sedan that has become central to the case. Mayham was subsequently identified as the suspect in both this and another aggravated assault robbery case, as per the details obtained by investigators.
Now in custody, Cory Mayham awaits trial for his role in the armed theft, as local authorities continue their search for the remaining individuals involved in the park-side heist.
