A Northwest Side community mailbox raid has left one man with charges, the San Antonio police reported. Quentin George Jr., a 43-year-old suspect, is accused of using a crowbar to pry open the mail receptacles of an apartment complex on Feb. 18, making off with a considerable stash of letters and parcels.

George's caper turned violent when he was spotted at the 8800 block of Cinnamon Creek, a witness who tried to capture the felony on a camera phone was pushed and punched in the face by the burglar, as KSAT reported. The suspect's escape was aided by a Subaru and an accomplice at the wheel, both of whom vanished from the scene shortly after the altercation.

Not until a disturbance call on March 10, nearly three weeks later, did officers pin the suspect at a residence in the 100 block of Sweetbriar, where George became entangled in the wheels of justice. He claimed a vehicle at the scene, which matched the getaway Subaru's description from the initial incident.

An acquaintance of George's connected the dots, recognizing the gear he sported in the video of the mailbox burglary, helping the authorities to tighten the net. Despite his affinity for anonymity, George has now been charged with robbery.
