A 57-year-old man, identified as Jackie Ray Cunningham, now faces human trafficking charges after allegations emerged that he paid for sexual encounters with a 15-year-old girl he confined within a motel room, according to court documents. Reports from an affidavit obtained by KSAT detail that Cunningham had multiple sexual interactions with the teen on April 29 and forbade her from leaving his hotel room, where she believed he possessed a firearm.
The victim's journey into Cunningham's clutches began after she met someone known only as "Cleo," who provided her with drugs while she was away from her home. She was later introduced to a duo named Stephen and Andrea, who police say, orchestrated her encounters with Cunningham at two different motel locations. As outlined by KSAT, Stephen and Andrea reportedly directed the victim to not accept less than $100, yet she disclosed to the police that she never received the payment directly from Cunningham, suggesting that it was Stephen and Andrea who took the money.
During an investigation, a San Antonio detective spoke with the teenage girl on May 8. She recounted her ordeal, detailing how she was confined over the course of a night, during which Cunningham told her she "could not leave" and had sexual relations with her "multiple times," as per her account to Express News. The alleged perpetrator was described as having "permed hair, which he kept in ponytails," and "bug eyes," a unique appearance that eventually led to his identification by the victim.
The investigatory trail led an officer to contact the motel manager on May 10 who confirmed that Cunningham had been living at the motel. Further surveillance substantiated the victim's accounts, with her positively identifying Cunningham from a single image shared by the authorities five days later. The affidavit also notes the layout of his room as described by the victim matched with what was on record. Under these accumulating pieces of evidence, Cunningham was arrested on Thursday, and his bail was set at $75,000, signifying a legal reckoning for the crimes he stands accused of.
