San Marcos is rolling out the red carpet for its residents with SMTX 2024, a citywide bash scheduled for next Wednesday. According to the official city website, folks can head down to Pauline Espinosa Community Hall from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. for a bit of community spirit and a peek at what's coming up in their hometown.

Whether it's career advice, volunteering ops, or just curious about the new initiatives on the horizon, the City’s departments have something for everyone. And if that's not enough, Mayor Jane Hughson will spill the beans on the past year's successes and what to watch for in the future. The speech unfolds at 6 p.m., but attendees can schmooze with city staff before and after the mayor's address.

Adding a touch of fun, this year's event features the SMTX 2024 Passport - a ticket to win some cool prizes, as reported on San Marcos' official website. Just grab one at the door, hit up at least 10 booths, and you’re in the running for everything from an Annual Pass to the San Marcos Activity Center to a smart thermostat that could make your nest a bit cozier.

Even a man's best friend might find a new home, as the San Marcos Regional Animal Shelter is bringing some furry friends in need of a forever family. And for those who get a kick out of big rigs, there will be a display of equipment and vehicles from Public Works and other departments. If you're swinging by, there’s free parking a stone's throw away at Plaza Park and the San Marcos Area Chamber of Commerce.
