As of today, Scott Gaither has been named the big cheese of the Planning and Inspections department in Conyers, taking over the reins from the retired Marvin Flanigan, who bowed out on April 30 after 43 years at the wheel. Flanigan was the original architect of the department, so those are some hefty shoes to fill.

Gaither hopped on board with Conyers City back in 2019 and has a hefty 20-plus years of experience in city planning. According to an announcement released by Conyers City, Gaither's no slouch academically either, holding a bachelor of science in urban policy studies and governmental management from Georgia State University, and is decked out with all sorts of municipal planning and community development certifications.

Putting in a good word, Conyers City Manager Tony Lucas praised Gaither's easy way with words and pro-level professionalism. "Scott always maintains impeccable professionalism and demonstrates a superb public speaking skillset every time he delivers information to our mayor, council, committees, and citizens," Lucas said as stated in the City of Conyers. He's also adept at bridging gaps between the city and various planning committees including the Conyers Rockdale Planning Commission and the Conyers Historic Preservation Commission.

Always busy ushering in new projects, he also doles out alcohol licensing and keeps an eagle eye on code enforcement, Lucas added. "We’re excited to see where Scott’s leadership and contributions will take the department next," he remarked with an air of optimism about Gaither steering the department into future territory.

The full announcement of Gaither's appointment, as well as details on his background and the meaty responsibilities the new director will assume, can be reviewed on the city of Conyers' official website.
