As summer swings into Texas with the inevitability of a heatwave, Shiner, a stalwart of the Lone Star State's beer scene, has readied a slew of new brews to quench the impending thirst. Known for its laid-back suds, Shiner is rolling out a limited-time Lemonade Shandy and a fresh IPA for the sultry days ahead, following a recent trend of fruit-infused concoctions. Available from May to August, the straw-golden Shiner Lemonade Shandy blends Spoetzel Brewery's homemade lemonade into a refreshing seasonal delight, as reported by the Houston Chronicle.
Adding to the line-up, Spoetzel Brewery has infused a zesty twist into its Mexican-style cerveza. A variant of the silver medal-winning Shiner ¡Órale! Limon, with lime flavor, is hitting the shelves, ensuring that the brand's fans can find a cold one to beat the heat. But that's not all – there's also a new Shiner TexHex Passion Fruit IPA that blends tropical fruits with hibiscus and cactus water, bringing a flavorful punch to the IPA game.
Health-conscious drinkers haven't been forgotten. The brewery made waves back in November when it broke the mold with its first non-alcoholic series, Shiner Rodeo (styled Rode0). Keeping true to their classic brewing process, they've concocted the Rodeo Golden Brew – a non-alcoholic beer so well-crafted it reportedly holds onto the soul of a Shiner brew. "Styled after a classic American lager, this light and refreshing brew offers crisp and malty notes that are perfectly balanced by delicate esters and a gentle hop profile," promised the company, according to a news release featured on CultureMap Houston.
Texans seeking to sidestep the booze but still indulge in the social lubricant of a cold one can also look forward to a Rode0 variety pack. It hosts a triumvirate of non-alcoholic options – Golden Brew, Red Amber, and Citrus Wit – ensuring there's something for every palate. Perfectly timed for those participating in "Dry January" or anyone else striving for a sober lifestyle without sacrificing flavor. As the non-alcoholic trend continues to rise in Texas, Spoetzl Brewery is keen on leading the charge. Tom Fiorenzi, Director of Brewery & Distillery Operations, shared his vision for the Rode0 line, stating, "We're proud to introduce the first of three non-alcoholic brews to our fans. Brewed using the same method as our iconic Shiner beers, the Shiner Rode0 line is authentically Shiner, just without the alcohol," as he told CultureMap Houston.
The Spoetzel Brewery appears to be going full circle, catching the waves of both the craft beer renaissance and the non-alcoholic revolution. For the parched patrons and dry-drink devotees alike, Shiner seems poised to make this summer one of the most inclusive and flavorful yet, sweat notwithstanding.
