A lone victim perished in a ferocious blaze that consumed a home in Machias overnight, authorities said. Snohomish Regional Fire & Rescue crews battled the flames that had engulfed the residence in the 600 Block of Carlson Rd shortly after midnight. KOMO News reported that the aggressive fire was visible at the front of the house upon the first responders' arrival, with the front door having already succumbed to the flames.
According to details from SRFR, more than 1000 feet of hose was unfurled to tackle the fire. They launched an attack from all sides of the structure, including the basement and attic areas. As the crews were dispatching the inferno, the fire had already claimed the house and its solitary occupant. The fire teams performed swiftly, managing to have the blaze under control within twenty minutes of their arrival, as firefighters encountered a house swallowed whole by flames.
Once the fire was subdued, and it was safe to proceed, a complete search of the property was conducted. It led to the grim discovery of the victim in a back bedroom of the home. In the wake of the tragedy, SRFR extended gratitude to the Snohomish County Fire District 4, Washington State Patrol, and the Snohomish County Sheriff for their support during the fire-fighting operations. They confirmed that no injury had befallen any firefighter involved in the response. The identity of the deceased has yet to be disclosed.
