South Florida is setting the stage for a grand send-off for one of its most esteemed political figures. The late former Florida Governor and U.S. Senator Bob Graham will be celebrated at a public service in his hometown Miami Lakes this Friday, May 11, from 1 p.m. to 2:30 p.m., WSVN reports. Graham's passing in April at the age of 87 marked the end of a five-decade legacy in politics where he was revered for his bipartisan cooperation and strong voter popularity.
The Graham family, having invited the public to join in honoring the former governor's memory, will host the ceremony at Miami Lakes United Church of Christ. Died last month, Graham served as Florida Governor from 1979 to 1987 and later represented the state in the U.S. Senate until 2005. His influence on Florida politics left an indelible mark, with a strong record of environmental protection and education reform among his key accomplishments.
Following the service, the Graham family will hold a public reception from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. at the Miami Lakes Hotel, where friends, family, and supporters can connect and reminisce. Attendees will also be given the chance to record their personal anecdotes and memories of the former governor as part of an initiative by the Samuel Proctor Oral History Program, the Bob Graham Center’s Instagram page revealed.
Those unable to attend in person have the option to view the celebration of life service online, ensuring that Graham's widespread impact can be acknowledged far beyond the confines of Miami Lakes. Remembers Bob Graham as one of its most accomplished alumni, the University of Florida honors a man who dedicated his life work to public service and set a standard for political leadership in the Sunshine State.
