A Spalding County man has been charged with multiple counts of sexual exploitation of children, authorities said Thursday. The suspect, 36-year-old Jordan Mitchell, a registered sex offender, was arrested by the Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI) Child Exploitation and Computer Crimes Unit.
According to an official GBI statement, the arrest quickly came about after a proactive investigation that was to begin this past April. A search warrant carried out at Mitchell’s residence led to law enforcement taking him into custody. The Spalding County Sheriff’s Office and the GBI's own regional office in Midland rendered assistance in the operation.
The suspect now faces time behind bars in the Spalding County Jail. This development is part of a broader initiative led by the Internet Crimes Against Children (ICAC) Task Force, an arm of the GBI dedicated to combatting the spread of child sexual abuse material and predatory actions against minors online.
The ICAC was set up to respond to the alarming rise in the number of minors easily using the internet, and to tackle the dangerous amount of child abuse content online. The task force also aims to pre-emptively stop predators looking to exploit any opportunity to make unsupervised contact with minors. The unit encourages anyone with information about potential exploitation to quickly contact the GBI, or to use the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children’s CyberTipline or the GBI's tip submission avenues, thereby helping to potentially save a child in jeopardy.
In keeping with their commitment to anonymity, the GBI offers various confidential ways for the public to report any suspicious activity. Informants may call the toll-free number, visit the GBI website, or use the See Something, Send Something mobile app to submit a tip anonymously.
