
A tense standoff in Fairview ended without bloodshed late Tuesday, as law enforcement took a barricade suspect into custody after a nearly eight-hour siege of a local home. According to the Multnomah County Sheriff's Office, the incident started when an intruder was spotted attempting to break into a residence on the 200 block of Bridge Street.
The homeowner’s quick-thinking 911 call sent deputies to the location around 3:30 p.m. on May 9, where they found the suspect had entered and barricaded himself inside a the occupied house. Occupants managed to flee the scene, avoiding a direct confrontation. In an effort to control the situation and safeguard the neighborhood, officers cordoned off the area, confining the threat to one location, the sheriff's office reported.
Heavily-armed SWAT officers, including crisis negotiators and drone operators from the East Metro SWAT team, stepped in after it was learned the intruder might have had access to weapons. The standoff drew to a close with the SWAT team making its move under cover of darkness, storming the residence after securing an arrest warrant, and apprehending the suspect just before 11 p.m. No names have been released as the suspect awaits booking into Multnomah County jail.
