In what authorities are calling a significant crackdown on drug circulation in Macomb County, two Sterling Heights men have been arrested following an extensive sheriff's investigation. The Macomb County Sheriff’s Office, through their Sheriff’s Enforcement Team (SET), nabbed 25-year-old Kyle Derouin for purportedly running a major cocaine operation in the area.
According to a report by ClickOnDetroit, SET enforced a search warrant last Thursday and confiscated a stockpile of drugs and weaponry that included approximately 16 grams of cocaine, nine Adderall pills, and $56,728.00 in cash. In addition to the narcotics and money, officers seized an arsenal consisting of four pistols, two rifles, two shotguns, multiple boxes of ammunition, and a Dodge Ram.
Derouin's apprehension was reportedly without a scuffle, and he was charged with a series of felonies that could lead to over two decades of prison time if convicted. WWJ Newsradio disclosed that Derouin is confronted with charges of controlled substance—delivery/manufacture of less than 50 grams and a weapon felony firearm, carrying a potential 20-year and a 2-year sentence, respectively. In addition, he faces a charge for possession of analogues.
48-year-old Dennis Lasater was also ensnared in the sting. He stands accused of possessing a controlled substance, less than 25 grams—clarified by the WWJ Newsradio report as a four-year felony charge. While Derouin's bail has been set at $25,000, with a 10% cash/surety requirement, Lasater was offered a more lenient $5,000 personal bond.
