Edrick Lamont Faust, 48, faces charges linked to the death of Tara Louise Baker, who was found dead in her burning home back in 2001, as reported by WABE.
The breakthrough came after an intense collaboration between the Georgia Bureau of Investigation and the Athens-Clarke County police, who jointly conducted an "in-depth review and analysis" of the cold case which led to Faust's arrest; investigators worked tirelessly, sifted through evidence and pieced together a puzzle that seemed destined to remain incomplete, the GBI mentioned in a news release. Firefighters discovered the body of Baker, then 23 and a promising first-year law student, during their response to a fire at her Athens apartment, a grisly scene that was later determined to be a cover-up for her murder.
Specific details about what directed the authorities to zero in on Faust or the nature of his connection to Baker, if any, were not disclosed by officials.
