A 19-year-old suspect accused in a deadly shooting at a Lawrenceville apartment complex has turned himself in, after a tense period for the community following the incident that claimed the life of an 18-year-old aspiring chef. FOX5 Atlanta reports that Raheem Whiteside, the alleged gunman, surrendered to authorities at the Gwinnett County Jail on May 9, nearly five days after the young victim, Timothy Henderson, was found shot to death near his residence.
The lamentable chain of events began on May 5 around 11 p.m., when Henderson, known affectionately as "TJ," was shot dead at the Herrington Mill Apartments, and though initially unidentified, by the following day police had pinpointed Whiteside as the prime suspect, leading to his flight and eventual apprehension. Residents like Anna Dividu, who has called the complex home for 13 years, were among the first witnesses, initially mistaking the fatal shots for innocuous sounds, she told FOX5 Atlanta, her voice still tinged with shock from the grisly scene that she later stumbled upon—an all too common tableau, where innocence twists into misfortune.
