Turning himself in under the shadow of outstanding firearm warrants, 20-year-old Chantz Dudley was nabbed by Springfield officers at 50 State Street yesterday morning. Previously on the lam, Dudley was hauled to police headquarters for booking and subsequently dragged back to court for a Tuesday afternoon arraignment, as reported by the Springfield Police Department.
The apprehension connects back to a March 11 incident that sparked pandemonium at the High School of Science and Technology. According to the Springfield Police's news release, chaos ensued when Dudley, armed with a gun, dealt a blow to a victim and popped off a round inside the school's corridor. The bullet flew through a window to the outside world, fortunately striking no one.
The chaos started when Dana Dudley, Chantz Dudley, Josiah Livingston, and a juvenile female were confronted by a teacher who opened the school door and told them to leave. Ignoring the teacher, one of them grabbed the door handle, forced it open, and they all pushed their way inside.
The announcement of the arrest detailed that, following the shooting, Livingston was arrested while still inside the school on assault and battery charges related to the altercation. Meanwhile, Chantz Dudley fled the scene, taken away by Dana Dudley as they, along with the unnamed juvenile female, hurried away after the gunshot rang out.
Dana Dudley's capture followed shortly thereafter, with school personnel detaining him and confiscating a knife allegedly in his possession. A judge set a $75,000 bail for him and imposed a 90-day hold on an unrelated open case. Meanwhile, Chantz Dudley's list of charges includes serious counts such as armed breaking and entering and discharging a firearm within 500 feet of a building, among others, as reported by the Springfield Police Department's official notification.
In the same thread, 45-year-old Dana Dudley faces an armed breaking and entering charge, while 22-year-old Josiah Livingston from Hartford also faces charges stemming from the alarming event. The narrative of compromised safety at a place of learning sadly unfolds, with its participants now facing the strict arm of the law.
