An hours-long SWAT operation unfolded in East Austin but wrapped up without a suspect behind bars, authorities said. A domestic disturbance call kick-started the ordeal near FM 969 on Craigwood Drive, where police arrived in the dead of night, at approximately 12:30 a.m., FOX 7 Austin reported.
The early morning incident left two people with injuries described as minor and non-life-threatening, and despite initial reports of the suspect holed up in the residence, potentially armed, the scene was later disbanded with the individual still at large, the details remain scant but the police have made it clear, no suspect is currently in custody, said the Austin Police Department.
According to a KXAN update, officers had spent hours trying to make contact with the suspect, who was 'known' to them, with the standoff concluding at around 6:30 a.m. The police issued a statement and a briefing video from 5:30 a.m. was made available, showcasing the heightened state of urgency that had earlier enveloped the neighborhood.
As the situation diffused with the rising sun, the local community was left with more questions than answers, the suspect's whereabouts are still unknown as police investigations continue, potentially signaling a troubling omen for community safety; meanwhile, the affected family begins their own recovery from the night's harrowing events.
