A peaceful evening was shattered in Seattle's Yesler Terrace neighborhood when a 13-year-old girl became the unfortunate victim of a shooting on Saturday night. The young teenager sustained injuries after she was caught in gunfire that erupted following a family dispute, according to police reports.
Authorities raced to the 1100 block of East Fir Street right before the 10:30 p.m. mark, rushed by calls of shots being fired. The scene they encountered bore the hallmarks of domestic conflict turned violent. The underage victim presented with multiple gunshot wounds, and responding officers stepped in to quickly administer first aid. The Seattle Fire Department personnel, arriving thereafter, transported the girl to Harborview Medical Center, where she remains in stable condition, as reported by the Seattle Police Department.
Detectives have pieced together a scenario where a heated quarrel between a man, his girlfriend, and her family escalated dangerously. It is alleged that in the altercation, the man went to retrieve a handgun from his car to decisively shoot at the family members. The teen struck once in each leg, was the unintended casualty in an incident that fortunately did not claim more victims.
The task of peeling back the layers of this tragic event now falls to the Gun Violence Reduction Unit, which has taken the helm of the investigation. As the authorities work methodically to gather evidence and eyewitness accounts, they are urging anyone with knowledge about the shooting to come forward. "The teen was struck once in each leg and was the only one injured," as per the SPD Blotter, outlining the sobering facts of a night that too quickly became a crime scene.
