A Texas man's liberty has been seized by the hands of justice after a federal court laid down a 41-month sentence for his role in providing refuge to undocumented immigrants, according to an announcement from U.S. Attorney Alamdar S. Hamdani.

Miguel Angel Nunez-Urrea, 37, who had previously admitted guilt on November 30, 2023, found himself facing the consequences when Chief U.S. District Judge Randy Crane echoed the gravity of his offense and the ensuing impact on his family's fabric, the U.S. Attorney’s Office reported. Crane's sentencing also underscored Nunez-Urrea's possession of firearms capable of accommodating high-capacity magazines; these were not ornaments but potential tools of greater harm.

The initial discovery of undocumented aliens by authorities on September 26, 2023, near Falfurrias, spun a trail that led to Nunez-Urrea's door in Mission Texas, where he housed more than just his family, stash house-style.

The search conducted at the break of dawn on October 11, 2023, unveiled seven undocumented individuals nestled in the attic above a child’s room, meanwhile, Nunez-Urrea’s arsenal included a loaded pistol and a .22 caliber rifle, with high-capacity magazines lodged in the supposed sanctuary of the couple's bedroom, it's a wonder tragedy didn't strike with such an arsenal within reach.

Text messages unearthed during the investigation divulged plans to move the migrants to Houston after their stay with the couple, sealing Nunez-Urrea's fate, alongside his wife, Kenia Anguiano-Sanchez, 30, who also pleaded guilty and has been sentenced, the two are awaiting transfer to a federal prison, their freedom pendulum now firmly stilled.

The case, led by the Border Patrol with the support of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, was prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Jose A. Garcia. As for Nunez-Urrea, not a U.S. citizen, awaits the potential removal proceedings post-imprisonment.
